Speech class… September 28, 2004

I'm surrounded by morons!!! I spent the first 15 minutes of class completely annoyed because of the closed-minded, republican, dim-wit who couldn't turn off her phone during class. We were discussing dialects and communication barriers. I actually had to explain to this twit that English isn't an American language and that it did not start here. Hello?? I'm Earth, have we met? Can there really be people who are this stupid? The last 20 minutes of class was just as fun. The Professor split up the class into two groups, men and women. We had to come up with a list of likes and dislikes for both men and women using societal stereotypes. I can't possibly tell you just how many times I actually had to say, “that may be true, but that's not a stereotype, if we break this down and analyze this according to personal likes and dislikes we'll be here all night.” Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!

I do like the group I'm working with from the class for the project at least. It's a good group of people. They are very nice and intelligent.

Oh yeah, I got a perfect score on the “Where will I be in ten years” paper. She said that it was well written and that I took a unique approach.

Saturday sucked. My dad's relatives are such assholes. Jeff, Karen, and Malka are the only ones who have ever made me feel like we were family and two out of three of those people said things to me that were kind of shitty.

1) At one point, Karen looked at me, made a face and said “SO, are you just going to keep letting your hair grow like that.” Trust me, it wasn't very complimentary.

2) I told Malka that I met someone from her synagogue and she looked at me and said “Oh, that's what she was meant. Someone mentioned they had met my niece and I had no idea what they were talking about.”

Fukyaverymuch

bah… there is a reason I haven't seen those people in almost ten years.

Cats… September 27, 2004

Sneaky and mysterious, you are a black cat!
CAT
You're a cat!
You are independant, mysterious, and often motivated by your own schemes and designs. Though you have a sense of loyalty, your only true loyalty is to yourself. You are nocturnal by nature, at least that's when you're most creative, but you can be found during the day as well, usually relaxing.

Congratulations! You are the most common
pagan familiar.

What pagan familiar are you?

It's things like this that really scare me these days… September 26, 2004

More reasons not to vote for Bush. That man really scares the hell out of me…

President Bush has announced his plan to select Dr. W.David Hager to Head up the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. The committee has not met for more than two years, during which time its charter lapsed. As a result, the Bush Administration is tasked with filling all eleven positions with new members. This position does not require Congressional approval.

The FDA's Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee makes crucial decisions on matters relating to drugs used in the practice of obstetrics, gynecology and related specialties, including hormone therapy, contraception, treatment for infertility, and medical alternatives to surgical procedures for sterilization and pregnancy termination.

Dr. Hager is the author of “As Jesus Cared for Women: Restoring Women Then and Now.” The book blends biblical accounts of Christ healing Women with case studies from Hager's practice. His views of reproductive health care are far outside the mainstream for reproductive technology. Dr. Hager is a practicing OB/GYN who describes himself as “pro-life” and refuses to prescribe contraceptives to unmarried women. In the book Dr. Hager wrote with his wife, entitled “Stress and the Woman's Body,” he suggests that women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome should seek help from reading the bible and praying. As an editor and contributing author of “The Reproduction Revolution: A Christian Appraisal of Sexuality Reproductive Technologies and the Family,” Dr. Hager appears to have endorsed the medically inaccurate assertion that the common birth Control pill is an abortifacient. We are concerned that Dr. Hager's strong religious beliefs may color his assessment of technologies that are necessary to protect women's lives or to preserve and promote women's health. Hager's track record of using religious beliefs to guide his medical decision-making makes him a dangerous and inappropriate candidate to serve as chair of this committee. Critical drug public policy and research must not be held hostage by antiabortion politics.

Members of this important panel should be appointed on the basis of science and medicine, rather than politics and religion. American women deserve no less.
There is something you can do. Below is a letter to be sent to the White House, opposing the placement of Hager. Please copy all the text of this email and paste it into a fresh email; then sign your name below and SEND THIS TO EVERY PERSON YOU KNOW WHO IS CONCERNED ABOUT WOMEN'S RIGHTS.

I oppose the appointment of Dr. W. David Hager to the FDA Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee.
Mixing religion and medicine is unacceptable in a policy-making position. Using the FDA to promote a political agenda is inappropriate and seriously threatens women's health. Members of this important panel should be appointed on the basis of science and medicine, rather than politics and religion. American women deserve no less.

I got my claim confirmation letter. Woo hoo!! It's barely enough to survive on, but I got it by god! Now I just have to find something a couple days a week that pays under the table to compensate. Huh, that won't be easy. I asked my professor if he knew of anything. He suggested work study. I might do that next term.
